'' VENUS FLYTRAP''

Oh ! no ,no my dear children, don't get confused by the above illustration. That lady does not trap insects, I am talking about a beautiful plant that traps insects. That plant is called "VENUS FLYTRAP ".  It looks so attractive that's why it is named after Goddess of love, Venus. The flower-shaped leaves attract
the insects and spiders towards the plant.

The open red and green leaves smell sweet and have stiff hair on edges ,when an insect touches a hair and  after touching it , if it touches a different hair within 20 seconds ,the plant shuts it's leaf and the insect is trapped.

Venus flytrap catches the insects like moths, flies, grasshoppers, ants, worms and beetles. When it traps the insect with the help of it's leaves, it produces a liquid to digest the food.It takes the nitrogen from the body of  the insect and consumes it .

Venus flytrap was first found in  "North America " . Now the plant is grown in all parts of the world in pots and is kept as ornamental   plant .   Hope you will like the information about this unusual plant.                                                                                         - Aunt Mary
